We're nearing the end of this crazy year! And what better way to close out 2021 than with a little competition to find out who will be the Phoenix Store Champion! We've got a bunch of prizes lined up, including some one-of-a-kind promotional items. Phoenix Store Championship Tournament Info

As with most of these posts, let's start with the basics. Here's all the time/date/format information you'll need to decide if competing in the event is up your alley:

• Date: December 4, 2021
• Time: 11:00 AM
• Format: Modern Constructed
• Entry Fee: $35 until December 1, then $40 afterwards
• Max Rounds: 8 (Plus a cut to the top 8)
• REL: Competitive (Decklists required)
• Player Cap: 44

Safety information: Vaccination cards and masks continue to be required to play. Non-Alcoholic drinks, water bottles, etc, are permitted inside the store, but food is not. For more information please see our Covid-19 response here.

Preregistration

You can preregister for this event on our website beginning November 15 at 11:00 AM! You'll be able to see the event over on our events page or if you're looking for a link directly to it, use this one! (Please note: this link will go live Nov 15 at 11 AM)

Rules Enforcement Level - Competitive

Since this is our first competitive event in a while, here's a run-down of what to expect. At at Competitive REL, decklists for the event are required. You can find a copy of a deck list here to print out ahead of time, or you can fill one out when you arrive for the event. Either way, you'll need to have one that accurately represents both your deck and sideboard ready for when the tournament begins, and we will be performing random deck-checks during the tournament.

Players are also expected to be familiar with the Magic Tournament Rules and the Infraction Protocol Guide. Our intent here is to protect the interests of all players by providing tournament integrity while also recognizing that not all players are intimately familiar with tournament structure, proper procedures, and rules. Infractions in these tournaments are covered by the Magic Infraction Procedure Guide.

Prizes!

Prizes for this event will be awarded based on attendance. When we sat down to plan this, we decided on a three tiered approach to prizes, with progressively greater offerings the more folks we get! 

Tier 1 - Unique Promos!

The Phoenix Store Championship comes loaded with some one-of-a-kind promo cards. For starters, the top 40 players who participate will be awarded a alt-art promo Arbor Elf as seen below.

The top 8 players will all receive an alt-art Collected Company, stamped with the store's name.

The winning player will also receive an alt-art Wurmcoil Engine, again stamped with our store's name. 

All prizes at tier one will be available regardless of the number of players who participate. 

Tier 2 - D&D Ampersand Promos

Back in the summer, Wizards announced that they would be sending participating WPN Premium shops a complete set of Rares and Mythics from the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, each with a foil overlay with the D&D Ampersand. We've decided that we'll be breaking that set apart and giving it away to the top 8 players in our store championship if we get to 20 players participating.

Each player in the top 8 will receive one chunk of the color pie (white, blue, black, red, and green), artifacts, multicolored cards, or land. While we're still working out the exact order for who gets what, they will be roughly ranked based on their secondary market value.

Tier 3 - Modern 1K time!

If we get to 40 players, the event will become a Modern 1K on top of all the other prizes, with $1000 in store credit prizes going out as follows:

• 1st Place: $400
• 2nd Place: $200
• 3-4th Place: $100
• 4-8th Place: $50
