Magic’s come a long way since 1993. We’ve seen the game evolve over the past thirty years, and now it’s time to take a moment and enjoy where it’s at now! Whether you’re a die hard magic player, a brand new player looking to learn the rules, or somewhere in between, we’ve got something for you at our Magic Celebration!

Magic Celebration Details

So just what goes into a Magic Celebration? Well to quote from Loading Ready Run - Lots of things! We’re taking the afternoon of July 8th to put on a celebration of all things MTG. We’re going to be hosting a new player learn-to-play event, a free to play jumpstart league, and more. We’ll have open tables for Commander available throughout the day and a Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth booster draft later in the afternoon for those who want to closeout the day with a bit of limited play. 

There will be promos to give away, cool dice bags, and even a fun little photo-flyer activity to make a custom magic token. Save the date! You won’t want to miss this event!

Learn to Play Event

Every event is someone’s first, and Magic Celebration is no exception. To that end, we’re hosting a special learn to play event for folks from 1 PM - 4 PM. This event is FREE so if you’re curious about getting into the game, there won’t ever be a better time to try it out.

We’ll start the event at around 1 PM. During that time we’ll have experienced Magic players on hand to help you learn to play, and we’ll have 2-player starter decks on-hand to further assist in that process.

Once you’ve got the basics covered, we’ll start up a free Jumpstart league at around 2 PM for new players looking for an introduction to what a limited format looks and feels like. Each player who wants to participate will get 2 Dominaria United Jumpstart Boosters. Our mentors will show you how to build a deck from those packs, and we’ll hand out score cards! Fill out your league card with games and get 2 additional Dominaria United Jumpstart boosters.

Commander Play

Commander players, we haven’t forgotten about you either! We’ll have four tables available specifically for Commander open play starting at 1 PM. So stop by, sign into the event on eventlink, collect some swag (more on that below) and head on back. 

Lord of the Rings Tales of Middle Earth Draft

We’ll close out the day with a draft of Magic’s newest set - Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle Earth. For you new players who’ve caught the bug, this will be a chance to put those newfound magic skills to the test.

The part of the event will start at 4 PM and run for approximately 4 hours. This is the only part of the Magic Celebration that will have an entry fee ($25), and will have a player cap of about 24 people. Registration for this event opens at 2 PM, so if you start learning how to play and want to give this a try, check with our team when you’re ready and we can get you registered.

Photo-Flyers and Fun Prizes!

Careful readers will have caught that I made mention of prizes, promos, and more earlier. So here’s the scoop on the swag. The first 90 players to participate in our Celebration Event (that’s signing into the event on eventlink) will recieve a free set of collectible dice and bag to go with it! Further - if you bring a friend to this event, both you and the friend will receive a copy of a special version of the card Thought Vessel.

But the thing I’m most excited to tell you about is the photo-flyer activity. Wizards of the Coast has sent us film and a camera and told us to make 1/1 humans with it. How are we doing this exactly? Well…..kinda like this!

So if you’re a cosplayer, or have a fun costume that you have always wanted to immortalize into a magic card, now’s your chance!
