July brings the summer fun at Phoenix!

July brings the summer fun at Phoenix!

Hey there friends! The summer months are upon us and they are so packed full of things to do that we'll be doing month-by-month rundowns of events for July, August, and September. So when you can, catch a break from the summer heat by heading over to your friendly local game store. Enjoy our AC, grab a cool drink, and pull up a table! We've got plenty to do, and lots of fun to be had.

Double Masters 2022

July starts off with a preview event for one of the year's most anticipated Magic releases - Double Masters 2022. Featuring powerful returning cards such as Wrenn and Six, Kozilek Butcher of Truth, and Liliana the Last hope, this set is one for the experienced Magic player who wants to draft with power.

We'll be running three preview drafts for this set on July 1-3, and a Launch event on July 8. Preview event information, preorders and tickets for these events will be up on June 15 at 11 AM, so mark your calendars! Here's a list of start times for each of these events:

  • July 1 - 6 PM
  • July 2 - 2 PM
  • July 3 - 2 PM
  • July 8 - 6 PM

Narrative Games Northwest

NGNW is back with their monthly meetup this July 4th at 6 PM! If you enjoy story games like Fiasco, Dread, Quiet Year, and Monster Hearts these folks would love to have you stop by. New players are always welcome, and they're happy to teach  any game played, so no experience necessary here.

Phoenix Store Championship

It's time to crown a new store champion at Phoenix! This is an event so large that it deserves its own post. And it's getting one! For now though, the important thing to know is the date and the format: July 16th at 11:00 AM, Modern Format!

More information on this event (including preregistration information) will go up around June 22.

Queer Geek Board Games

The fine folks over at Queer Geek Seattle will be joining us Saturday, July 9 from 1 - 5 PM. If you're a fan of board games and haven't stopped in, I highly suggest doing so! It's a fun, casual and welcoming crowd open to all gamers of the LGBTQIA+ persuasion (allies welcome too!).

Phoenix Regional Championship Qualifier

July is a month of not one, but 2 competitive Modern events! If you've ever aspired to one day count yourself as a professional magic player, consider this event the first step towards that goal. The winner of our RCQ on July 24 will not only walk away with a bunch of excellent prizes but an invite to the Regional Championships later this year!

More information on this event will be announced on or around July 5.

Seattle Feminist Comic Book Club

Comic book fans, this one's for you! Every month we play host to a comic discussion group aimed at critical examination of comics through an intersectional feminist lens. Past books include The Wicked + The Divine, Godshaper, Laguardia, and many many more! This month's meetup is happening on July 25 from 6-9 PM.

July's book will be Ms Marvel Volume 1!

Phoenix Community Game Day!

Join us Sunday, July 31 from 1-5 PM for a brand new event - Phoenix Community Game Day! On this Sunday we urge you to come out and play some games with fellow members of the community. Attendees will not only get a chance to form new connections with our community of gaming friends, but we'll also have a board game raffle to help you expand your game collection!

Weekly Events (3 new events)

And if all the one-off events weren't enough, we're also continuing to offer all of our weekly favorites along with 3 new events on Tuesdays and Fridays. Here's a quick rundown of what to expect every day of the week:

  • Mondays Night Pauper (free to play) - 6 PM
  • Tuesday Night Modern + Flashback Draft (new!) - 6 PM
  • Wednesday Night Commander - 5 PM
  • Thursday Night Legacy & RPG Open Table Night (new!) - 6 PM
  • Friday Night Draft + Pioneer (new!)

Tuesday Night Flashback Drafts

Beginning in July, we'll be offering a variety of older draft events. We haven't finalized this schedule yet, but rest assured we're aiming to give you a fun alternative draft night if you can't make it on Fridays.

RPG Open Table Night

In the pre-pandemic days, Thursdays were host to several RPG groups over the years. In that spirit, we'd like to offer the tables of Thursday nights as a place for you to bring your weeknight RPG group, be it D&D, Shadowrun, Vampire, or your very own home-brew system. We can accommodate up to 3-4 groups of 8 players at our tables, and still have room for our Legacy crowd.

Friday Night Pioneer

We've heard your cries. I've seen the play-testing! It's time for us to roll out Pioneer at Phoenix. In the same vein as Modern and Legacy, this event will fun you $10 to enter, with prizes taking the form of store credit to players who do well.

And that's July for you! We'll be back next month with a sneak peak at August's special events. We've got a few lined up that I think you'll really enjoy!
