The new year is here. A time for celebration and festivities! Here at Phoenix, we've got a special festival brewing later this January - a Festival in a Box. This event promises to be a fun and exciting take on our traditional chaos draft events, but space is limited! To find out how to secure a spot for one of these events, read on and find out.

Festival In a Box Information

So just what is this event? The Festival in a Box is a tournament kit that's been available at Magic Con events throughout 2023, and available online in limited quantities, and we've got one coming to Phoenix this January! Here's a quick rundown of the basic info for those of you who want to attend:

  • Date: January 20, 2024
  • Time: 2:00 PM
  • Format: Chaos Draft 
  • Rules Enforcement Level: Competitive
  • Player Cap: 8
  • Entry Fee: $30
  • Entry Restrictions: Qualification needed!
  • Prizes: 1 Box of Mystery Booster Convention Edition, 1  Dan Frazier's Mox Box – Foil Etched Secret Lair Drop, and 1 Relentless Rats Non-Foil – Secret Lair Promo by Graham Yarrington

Chaos Pool Info

Our festival in a box chaos draft pool will consist of the following packs:

  • 1x Dominaria Remastered Draft Boosters
  • 3x Modern Horizons 2 Draft Boosters
  • 1x Dominaria United Draft Boosters
  • 1x The Brothers’ War Draft Boosters
  • 2x Streets of New Capenna Draft Boosters
  • 4x Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Draft Boosters
  • 3x Wilds of Eldraine Draft Boosters
  • 4x March of the Machine Draft Boosters
  • 1x Phyrexia: All Will Be One Draft Boosters
  • 2x Innistrad: Crimson Vow Draft Boosters
  • 2x Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Draft Boosters

Before any cards are drafted, however, we'll be Rochester drafting the packs themselves to form each player's pack pools. Starting with the first seed, we'll go around the table with each player picking a pack from the list above. Once we get to the eighth seed, drafting will then snake backwards, with the eighth seed getting an immediate second pick, then seventh, then sixth and so on. Once all the packs have been drafted, players will then take their seats and begin the actual draft itself.

Qualification

Because we only have 8 spots for this event, we'll be using every draft we hold between now and January 20th as qualifiers! Every player who goes 3-0 in one of our drafts will get an opportunity to purchase one of the qualifying spots while supplies last. That player will receive an email from the store with a link enabling them to purchase a spot. That spot will remain open until the following draft event, so if you qualify act quickly and reserve that spot!

  • Tuesday, January 2 at 6:30 PM (Lost Caverns of Ixalan Draft)
  • Friday, January 5 at 6:30 PM (Ravnica Remastered Preview Event)
  • Saturday, January 6 at 2:00 PM (Ravnica Remastered Preview Event)
  • Tuesday, January 9 at 6:30 PM (Lost Caverns of Ixalan Draft)
  • Friday, January 12 at 6:30 PM (Ravnica Remastered Launch Weekend Event)
  • Tuesday, January 16 at 6:30 PM (Lost Caverns of Ixalan Draft)
  • Friday, January 19 at 6:30 PM (Ravnica Remastered FNM)

In the event that a player qualifies, but no spots are available, that player will be placed on a list of up to 4 alternates. Alternates who attend the event will be able to buy into the Festival in a Box in the event that one of the qualified players fails to show up. If an alternate shows up but no spot ends up available for them, that player will receive a 50% discount for this month's chaos draft event instead.

Our undefeated (i.e., 3-0) player will recieve

  • 1  Dan Frazier's Mox Box – Foil Etched Secret Lair Drop
  • 1 Relentless Rats Non-Foil – Secret Lair Promo by Graham Yarrington
  • 4 bonus packs of Mystery Booster Convention Edition

All players (winner included) will receive:

  • 1 pack of Mystery Booster Convention Edition for participating.
  • 1 pack of Mystery Booster Convention Edition for each round won.
