Add our August Events to your line-up!

by Phoenix Comics and Games

Hey there friends! The summer months are upon us and they are so packed full of things to do that we'll be doing month-by-month rundowns of events for August and September. So when you can, catch a break from the summer heat by heading over to your friendly local game store. Enjoy our AC, grab a cool drink, and pull up a table! We've got plenty to do, and lots of fun to be had.

Emerald City Comic Con Signings!

ECCC is just around the corner, and we're in the process of lining up some signings during the con! If you're interested in seeing who comes out, plan on stopping by August 17 and keep your eyes peeled on our blog for more info in the first week of August.

RPG Adventurer's Faire

Calling all DMs, GMs, and storytellers! We're having an RPG Adventurer's Faire this August 21 from 1 PM - 5 PM. More details on this to come shortly, but here's the basic idea: We're gonna provide open space and platform for GMs and players to meet up, get to know one another, and form groups to play a D&D, Pathfinder, Shadowrun, or any other RPG that sounds good.

Narrative Games Northwest

NGNW continues their monthly meetup schedule this August 1st and September 5th at 6 PM! If you enjoy story games like Fiasco, Dread, Quiet Year, and Monster Hearts these folks would love to have you stop by. New players are always welcome, and they're happy to teach  any game played, so no experience necessary here.

Queer Geek Board Games

The fine folks over at Queer Geek Seattle will be joining us Saturday, August 6 from 1 - 5 PM. If you're a fan of board games and haven't stopped in, I highly suggest doing so! It's a fun, casual and welcoming crowd open to all gamers of the LGBTQIA+ persuasion (allies welcome too!).

Seattle Feminist Comic Book Club

Comic book fans, this one's for you! Every month we play host to a comic discussion group aimed at critical examination of comics through an intersectional feminist lens. Past books include The Wicked + The Divine, Godshaper, Laguardia, and many many more! This month's meetup is happening on August 29 from 6:30-9 PM.

August's book will be NK Jemisin's Far Sector!

Phoenix Community Game Day!

Join us Sunday, August 28 from 1-5 PM for the second in a new event series - the Phoenix Community Game Day! On this Sunday we urge you to come out and play some games with fellow members of the community. Attendees will not only get a chance to form new connections with our community of gaming friends, but we'll also have a board game raffle to help you expand your game collection!

Dominaria United Prerelease

It's not technically in August, but it would be wrong of me not to mention the prerelease for Dominaria United! This set's going to kick off Magic's 30th anniversary, so if you haven't already done so, save the date for September 2-4th! We'll have a prerelease blog up shortly as well as preregistrations and preorders for things.

Weekly Events

And if all the one-off events weren't enough, we're also continuing to offer all of our weekly favorites along with 3 new events on Tuesdays and Fridays. Here's a quick rundown of what to expect every day of the week:

  • Mondays Night Pauper (now a paid event) - 6 PM
  • Tuesday Night Modern + Flashback Draft - 6 PM
  • Wednesday Night Commander - 5 PM
  • Thursday Night Legacy & RPG Open Table Night - 6 PM
  • Friday Night Draft + Pioneer

Tuesday Night Flashback Drafts

Ever wanted to revisit an old favorite draft format? We've set aside a little product here and there, and now we're here to bring you exactly that! August's schedule is finalized and posted here (as well as up on our events page):

  • August 2: Innistrad Double Feature
  • August 9: Mystery Booster Convention Edition
  • August 16: Innistrad Crimson Vow
  • August 23: Eternal Masters
  • August 30: Strixhaven

Preregistration for each of these events will open up at 11 AM the day before over on our events page, so set your reminders and alarms if you're worried about any of these events selling out!

August Friday Night Drafts

August's a kinda weird month for Magic - there's no "active set" for us to be drafting, so instead we'll be offering a small mashup of recent sets along with a special treat the last week of August. Here's the specific lineup for Fridays:

  • August 5: Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate
  • August 12: Streets of New Capenna
  • August 19: Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate
  • August 26: Battlebond*

* Please note: The Battlebond is a 2-headed giant draft event! Each preregistration spot will be for 2 people. Please plan accordingly and find a 2nd head to destroy your enemies with.

Just like our Tuesday Night Drafts, preregistration for each of these events will open up at 11 AM the day before over on our events page, so set your reminders and alarms if you're worried about any of these events selling out!

RPG Open Table Night

In the pre-pandemic days, Thursdays were host to several RPG groups over the years. In that spirit, we'd like to offer the tables of Thursday nights as a place for you to bring your weeknight RPG group, be it D&D, Shadowrun, Vampire, or your very own home-brew system. We can accommodate up to 3-4 groups of 8 players at our tables, and still have room for our Legacy crowd.

Friday Night Pioneer

We've heard your cries. I've seen the play-testing! It's time for us to roll out Pioneer at Phoenix. In the same vein as Modern and Legacy, this event will fun you $10 to enter, with prizes taking the form of store credit to players who do well.

Monday Night Pauper

Pauper's been getting consistent numbers of players, so to honor that commitment to the format, we're making it a paid event! We'll now be offering a weekly recurring Pauper tournament Monday nights at 6 PM. Entry is $10 with payout in store credit just like our Modern, Legacy, and Pioneer events.

And that's August and the first bit of September for you! We'll be back next month with a sneak peak at the rest of September's special events. We've got a few lined up that I think you'll really enjoy!
